Summer holidays are almost upon us but when the schools go back in September, family life is about to change again for me.
My youngest starts secondary school so playground picks up are a thing of the past. This makes the time we spend together even more precious and for me, with my passion for travel, I want them to experience everything that the world has to offer.
Experience holidays- this is what I would define as more of an adventure holiday- fully embracing the culture, food and adventure from a country so different to your own. Safari holidays, South-east Asia touring itineraries, almost bucket list places that you want to experience as a family.
Morocco is such an example- It is a really accessible country at just under a 4 hour flight from the UK, although it seems a world away. Perfect for a weekend break, a week or even longer if you want to explore! A vibrant and diverse country located in North Africa, known for its rich history, cultural heritage, and stunning landscapes. Having just booked a trip to Morocco for some clients has me re-living my travels there. I am lucky to have seen most of the country from bustling cities like Marrakesh, coastal towns like Essaouira to serene deserts like Erg Chebbi; Morocco offers a unique blend of the old and new.
The medinas, or old towns, are particularly noteworthy, filled with narrow, winding streets, souks (markets), and traditional riads that transport visitors back in time. The Riads are former houses of merchants and noblemen set around an interior garden and most have been converted into contemporary boutique hotels, some with roof terraces, plunge pools and sometimes a spa and Hammam. What makes them particularly unique is they are often hidden behind unassuming doors in the myriad of alleyways, leading the traveller away from the hustle and bustle into a calm oasis.
Throughout the rest of the country, there is a variety of character accommodation- Kasbahs, fortified residences, are also popular places to stay and offer a real experience of the country.
A perfect 10 day introduction to Morocco visiting Marrakesh, The Atlas Mountains and Essaouira on the coast including flights and private transfers costs around £1500pp based on 2 people travelling.
